Limina recognizes our collective celebration as we complete 2016’s journey around the sun.
Let’s take a moment to celebrate user experience achievements that will drive innovation in 2017.
Cognitive Computing
Machines are Learning. IBM unleashed trial user accounts to testdrive Watson on their data sets. Google’s DeepMind grasped the basic principles of physics. George Hotz took on Google and Tesla with his own open source automated driving kit.
Augmented/ Virtual Reality & 360 video
Widespread adoption and dissemination of AR and VR. Admit it… you Pokemoned yourself silly this year and you put on a VR headset at least once this year. These are just early signs that Holo-lens-like practical applications of this tech are just around the corner. In the meantime, grab some cardboard and watch some 360° youtube videos.
Natural Interfaces (NUI)
Raise your hand if you got an Amazon Echo or Dot this year… speech is the tip of the iceberg in natural interfaces. Google’s Soli project is now in prototype implementations with the help of LG. We’ll be bypassing touch, mouse, and keyboard for speech and gestures in just a short while so get ready.
Cryptocurrency Surge
This year Bitcoin outperformed all currencies. And with a surge in FinTech, we’re predicting a rise in RegTech – not just in crypto currencies, but integrated Regulatory Information Management systems to match enterprise pace with the speed of regulatory policy changes across all industries.

Whiplash: How to Survive Our Faster Future
Sustainable innovation is more than just driving ahead in R&D. It takes understanding your present context and your past with an eye on unintended consequences. In WHIPLASH, Joi Ito and Jeff Howe distill that logic into nine organizing principles for navigating and surviving this tumultuous period. From strategically embracing risks rather than mitigating them (or preferring “risk over safety”) to drawing inspiration and innovative ideas from your existing networks (or supporting “pull over push”), this dynamic blueprint can help you rethink your approach to all facets of your organization.
